Wall Painting Preparation Tips
Before you endeavour on a wall painting excursion you need to prepare the room and surface. There is a common misconception that a good quality coat can be used to cover imperfections of a wall painting project. Although partially true, you still need to prepare the surface for the specific paint to ensure that you have a smooth, professional and long lasting result.
The following tips can be used to ensure that your wall painting project is successful.
- Remove the covers from the power sockets where possible. Be sure to switch off the power before you do so. If you cannot remove light fixtures, place a plastic bag over them. The power outlets can be covered with masking tape if you cannot remove them.
- Cover the floor area with a plastic shield or a canvass.
- Remove nails from the wall and fill the holes with a special surface compound such as Pollyfilla that can be obtained from you nearest Kings Paint outlet. The consultant will be able to provide advice on the most suitable compound for the specific surface.
- You can use a patch type plaster to cover the hole. Wait until it is dry and then use sandpaper to level the surface where after you can apply a primer.
- If there are any plaster bubbles or loose plaster on the surface, you need to remove the pieces with a scraper. Once done you can apply compound to level the surface in the same way that you would do when covering holes.
- Apply a primer before you apply the actual coat. If you have a chemical stripper, which can be obtained from Kings Paint, you can use that to strip away the old layers.
The final tip for wall painting is to purchase durable, high quality products for the project from you nearest Kings Paint outlet where you can also obtain free advice on the surface preparation process. |
