Paint Store

If you are thinking of doing some home decorating, then the most important thing is to have the correct equipment, and you can get all of that at your nearest Kings Paint Store. Let’s start with a list of the equipment you are likely to need.

  • Paint
  • Primer (optional – if necessary – our representative will advise you)
  • Paint Brushes (suggest 1 wide - 3 inch and 1 narrow - 1 inch for "cut in" and trim)
  • Paint Roller
  • Extension Pole (for ceilings and high walls)
  • Paint Tray (metal is best)
  • Polyfilla
  • Putty Knife (2 inch, 4 inch, or 6 inch, depending on size of holes)
  • Sandpaper
  • Plastic or dust sheets to cover furniture and floors
  • Masking tape

If you don’t possess one it would be a good idea to add a stepladder to the list. All of the above you can find at your local paint store. One thing that must be stressed – it really pays to buy good equipment. In the above list there are three items where this is essential, these are the brushes, rollers and the paint tray. If you invest in a good set of brushes and you look after them properly they will last you for years. Your paint store representative will advise you as to the best brushes.

If you’ve not already thought about it, now is the time to decide on the colour scheme that you want for the house – this can be quite a overwhelming task at times, but is made easier by the coloured chip cards that are available at most good paint stores. Take some samples home and have a good look at them in the lighting conditions inside the house and amongst the furniture and fittings in the room you are going to paint. This will give you a good idea of how the colour will blend in with that room. Do remember though that those little chip cards, although depicting the colour correctly, are not large enough to give an accurate picture of what the overall paint job will look like when finished. Generally for a given sample the colour will look darker on the chip card and brighter on the wall. You may want to go in the two-tone direction with walls of different colours adjacent to each other. There is nothing wrong with this as long as you choose colours that are complimentary to each other.

Probably the best method of deciding what colours you would like to use on your walls would be to ask a professional. Professional interior decorators have the experience and expertise to assist you not only in colour choices, but in what type of paint is best, how to apply it, and other information useful to your circumstances. Remember that the representative down at the local Kings paint store is there to help you. He will give you advice about what colours to choose and will be able to put you in touch with an interior decorator. You should be able to find all the equipment and information you need at the paint store. Good painting!
