Knowledge of the terms used can help you make decisions regarding combinations and as such we gladly share the information with you.

Hue

The term describes what the basis of a specific color is which can be red, green, blue or yellow. Although there can be a large number of variations in lightness or darkness the basis stays the same.

Tint

Whereas shade refers to colors closest to black, the tint refers to the colors closest to white. For example: lighter purple.

Shading

This is used to describe the variations of colors - for instance, darker shades of red. It refers to the color scheme closest to black.

Tone

It refers to the intensity of a color or also the brightness. If pink is added to red it will lighten the tone. The same goes when grey is added to the same color which will darken the tone.

Value

his simply refers to how dark or light the color is; for instance light green, medium green and dark green all have green as the same base - thus hue. They however, have different values.
