House painting

Few things can better the emotional value that a new coat of paint throughout your house can do for you. Not only that, but painting a house can add immense value to the house itself, and a new coat of paint before putting a house on the market will almost certainly pay for itself over and over again. And if you are not selling your house, you will feel such a lot better after it has been painted. If you are going to undertake the house painting yourself and don’t consider yourself a good handyman, it’s worth consulting a family friend or neighbour who is a good handyman regarding the project you are to undertake.

The first thing to make a positive decision upon is the proposed colour scheme – bring the better half into the decision making process and go through the house together – it’s a good idea to pop into your local Kings Paints store, where you can obtain a handful of those coloured paint chips or cards to go through the house with. Once you have decided on the colours, write down the number of square metres of each room or colour on a piece of paper – your Kings Paint representative will be able to tell you exactly how much of each colour you will need for your painting. It’s a good idea to buy a little extra paint so that you can do touch-ups in the future. You will also need to write down all of the equipment and supplies you will need for your house painting project. Try to think of everything – ladders, drop cloths, some filler for cracks, rollers and brushes, paint cleansers, maybe a spray bottle and compressor – once again your local Kings Paint rep will be able to assist you with this.

If you’re painting the exterior of the house make sure that you use a paint that will protect your home from the elements – the heat in summer, the cold in winter and a paint that will protect the house from damp. If you have a lot of exterior wood you will need to treat it with a pproduct that not only protects from the weather, but also from termites and borer beetle. Before starting the painting of the interior of the house, remove as much furniture as you can from each room as you paint it. Also remove all of the fitted hardware from doors and windows, including hinges, latches, doorknobs and strike plates.

You will soon come to realize after you have started the house painting what a daunting task it is. It’s hard work and you can easily end up with a stiff neck and exhausted. If you are not paying someone else to do the job, consider having a house painting party where you can rope in all of your healthy young friends to do the job for you. Lastly, if you have any queries at all regarding house painting don’t hesitate to contact your nearest Kings Paint representative.
